Paterson, NJ – January 2023 – Accurate Box Company, a woman-owned company and manufacturer of litho-laminated corrugated packaging, invested in the research and development of a prefeeder robot to feed boxes through one of its nine folder-gluers. The robot started as an innovation project by Accurate Box and would be the first of its kind. Many companies were not willing to take on the challenge of developing the robot due to the amount of time needed to dedicate to the project and the complexity of what the robot needed to accomplish.
Then came Rigorous Technology. Rigorous has a lot of experience developing robots for all kinds of applications. Although they didn’t have any experience in the box business, they were excited about the challenge and took on this project without hesitation.
Accurate Box and Rigorous began working on this innovation project over a year and a half ago. It was an important project for Accurate Box as the robot allows the folder-gluer to run at more consistent speeds, helps reduce the burden of heavy lifting by the team, and frees up feeder operators to work in other areas of the department.
The entire robotic system picks up 7,000+ pounds of boxes per hour and loads them onto the hopper of a folder-gluer machine. After all of the boxes are picked up, the robot sweeps waste off of the pallet and stacks the pallet on an outbound conveyor. After the boxes exit the folder-gluer, another robot palletizes the boxes in bundles.
